I'm now writing this in my house in Hefei. There are few kind of site blocking, my site is just DNS filtering and redirection. I changed the DNS to OpenDNS so I can access my site freely :)
This trip is actually a bit scary.
After leaving the Shanghai Pudong International Airport after 14 intense hours of flight. I need to catch a coach bus to Hefei.
My mom(now, I will call her my aunt so there will be no confusion of her and my biological mom in China) give me 3 baggage(All over 20kg), and I wear a backpack + a computer laptop bag. Total of 5 things is too much to bring to a train(which get me to Hefei in 3 hours)
We gone to one of the traveling places and found the soonest bus is at 10am(at that time, it was 5:40 am)
That's where the entire scary trip begins. We got out and a random guy convinced my aunt that I will just go to his friend's coach bus. It is ok except that random guy lied about where I would get off because he doesn't know at all.

I dare not to sleep on the bus. Someone yells "We are at [location name]" and if I'm asleep, I would be miss Hefei. With only 30 Yuan in my hands, I didn't have lunch, the money should be used for emergency.

After 6 hours of intensive trip. I was dropped off at west of Hefei around 20 km from the city with 30 Yuan in hand, 5 baggage, hungry, thirsty and tired. How am I going to go home when I have no cell phone and this is literally middle of no where. At the same time, my parents are running around in different possible locations I could be. No one expected I would arrive here.

Been a smart person I am, I used up all 30 Yuan to get a cab to drop me off at the edge of the city.

In the city, I have gone around and ask people if I can borrow their cell phone to make a call. No one did. Later I know this is because there are too many swindler ask people for their cell phone and then do w/e trickery they have to PROFIT.
For sometime I thought there is no trust in China. Sad...
Luckly, some girl(seems like high school girl) gave me an IC card(Smart card) with 0.5 Yuan deposit. I get a chance to make a call to my mom. She waits in front of the apartment with money, so I can take a taxi to go home.
I really should ask which school she is in, so I could write an letter to the school to thank what she have done also tell her how significant she have helped. But she was waiting for a bus so she was gone soon after giving me the IC card and I'm to stupid to think of asking.
I have to move around 100m to get to the nearest place that is allowed for taxi to pick up passengers.
I look stupid. moving those heavy baggage one by one...
I eventually got home.
Slept.
Woke up just now. Refreshed, blogged, slightly food poisoned and preparing for a intense day.

A great underestimation of how much time it will consume to go though with guidance and submit forms.

Originally, I have believed one day is enough.
It is not!!!!
I'm going to school again tomorrow to submit stuff, while I'm suppose to leave the house and travel to the airport(and stopping at places to buy stuff) at 3pm. So frustrating.

Such a nice lesson to be learned.
Always leave myself some time before I make the travel plans.

This is the last post I make before I arrive China... Which will start something even more intense...

Fuck college applications. Fuck it. How about all colleges use the same essay and same supplement so I don't have to fucking looking for stuff everywhere.

Screw Intel STS. How about remove all those things usually appear on college supplements and only consider my research paper? STS want me to be a good writer and write about how I have curiosity... Why do STS care about what I want to major in...

Suppose that md5(x) is a function that randomly maps an x with another non-negative integer that's smaller than 2^128(not necessarily one to one). There are some expected values.

Expected number of x with that property out of all possible x with above assumption.
I would think it as pick x, then randomly pick a number from 0 to 2^128-1 for f(x). Each pick are mutually exclusive. What's the chance x = f(x)
There are 2^256 combination of (x, f(x)), 2^128 of them are x = f(x)
Then we have...... 1 out of 2^128.
Doesn't give us too much hope... haha... This problem is not likely to be answered brutal force unless I'm really lucky or md5 is designed with like 10^20 md5(x) = x.

I'm searching for an analytical method to do No.1
2 and 3 are likely only brutal forceable. While there isn't enough computational power to do it.

This problem can be generalized into any hash function that's complex(beyond normal humans' analytical thinking) and large(beyond any computer's computational power) to show how limited our knowledge are.

My site have been gaining people with strange fetishes.

I remember once heard that a spy in some scifi story stored the entire library of data from the military with a needle. He marked a point on the needle, which divide the needle into 2 parts. The length of each part became the numerator and denominator of an fraction, and the binary expansion of the fraction is the compressed data of the library.

How innovative. Or is it? Fit a large amount of data by converting it into a fraction and store it in a needle. How convenient. Why isn't it happening in real life?

One must note that currently, we can only manipulate the world discretely. We can't continuously divide the needle into infinite small parts. Assuming the smallest object can be precisely altered is an atom.
Let's make some assumptions about an ordinary needle. Suppose it have 4 cm long, and the diameter of an atom is 0.1nm and all very tightly packed. Then there are 40000 0000 atoms, 4*10^8. Call this number k.

WLOG, the first part of the needle has x atoms, the 2nd part has y atoms. It's ok to assume x != y. Why put the data on a needle when the number "1" is all he have to remember.

The binary digit expansion of x/y is the compressed data. The expansion digit is almost always infinite, but only the digits before the first repeat is useful.

What is the largest possible binary expansion for this?

So, the entire library can be stored in less than 50MB of data? Please...
And even if that IS the case, what's the possibility of that? there are 2^k combination of k bits. k/2^k chance. It's more likely to win the lottery and get hit by lightning... 3 times... in 20 seconds... than that the library actually can be stored with such an needle.
